What is Wellness Coaching?

Wellness has been defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

In today’s world where information has never been as readily available it is becoming clear that simply knowing what to do to be healthier or happier is not enough. You probably already know several things that you can do, or not do, that will make you healthier and happier yet making consistent and lasting change is not easy. Just think about it, if you were going to make those changes by yourself you probably would have done so by now!

As a professional Health and Wellness Coach, I know just how hard it can be to make important lifestyle changes and make them last! If you are serious about making changes to promote health and wellbeing in your life, then having the expertise, guidance and support of a wellness coach will go a long way to help ensure you are successful and get the results you want.

Why Choose Wellness Coaching?

Whether you want to lose weight, eat better, manage stress, exercise more or improve your health and wellbeing in some other way it all requires a change in behaviour. However, every year millions of people create New Year’s Resolutions but statistics show that very few people (only about 7%) are successful with making changes and making them last. Making lasting lifestyle change can be simple but is not easy!

I see health good health and wellbeing as being built upon a foundation of healthy behaviours. It is all about creating lots of good habits, routines, strategies and being consistent with healthy behaviours. Just like brushing your teeth every day is great for oral health small and often simple actions that you do for yourself on a regular basis help build and maintain health, vitality and a sense of well-being.

However, modern neuroscience now shows us that creating new habits and behaviours is like hacking a path through a jungle whereas old habits (good or bad) die hard because they have already become like well worn paths engraved in your brain! 

Simply put, making changes that last is not easy and requires a lot more than willpower and discipline!

Working with a H&W Coach gives you an ally, someone who knows how to set you up for success in whatever it is you want to achieve. I will then support you, cheer you on and helping you be accountable to yourself along the way until you have achieved your goals.

What It Involves:

Design Your Life Coaching is all about individualising wellness for every client. What works for one does not work for another!

Coaching is about helping you get very clear on your health and wellness goals and then helping you make a concrete plan to make sure you reach those goals. You are the expert in your life and your coach is the expert in behavioural change!

 

That is just the start however, so typically in coaching the client meets their coach (in person or online) about once a week over a period of several weeks. We work as a team toward a common goal, your goal, and your success is my success!

The first step is to help you set clear goals and then create a wellness plan. Goals are then broken down into clear action steps each week. Strategies are put in place to ensure you overcome barriers to success. Your coach guides and supports you, helping you make sure you remain accountable to yourself and follow through with your intended actions. Together we track your progress and tweak the plan if needed on your journey to wellness.

The coaching finishes when you have reached your goals or decide to opt out.
